The Technical Manager is responsible for leading and managing all technical and engineering activities throughout the construction project lifecycle. The role ensures that engineering deliverables, designs, technical submissions, and construction activities comply with project specifications, approved drawings, applicable codes and standards, and the required quality and safety requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the technical and engineering team throughout the project.
- Review and coordinate engineering drawings, specifications, calculations, and technical documents.
- Ensure all technical activities comply with approved project requirements, applicable codes, standards, and regulations.
- Coordinate with consultants, clients, subcontractors, and internal departments on technical matters.
- Review and approve technical submittals, method statements, material submissions, and shop drawings.
- Monitor the progress of engineering deliverables and ensure timely submission and approval.
- Identify and resolve technical issues, design conflicts, and construction-related challenges.
- Coordinate with construction teams to ensure proper implementation of approved designs and engineering requirements.
- Manage the RFI process and ensure technical queries are addressed and closed within the required timeframe.
- Review design changes, variations, and technical proposals and assess their impact on cost, schedule, and constructability.
- Ensure proper coordination between different engineering disciplines and eliminate design/interface conflicts.
- Participate in technical meetings with the client, consultant, and project stakeholders.
- Provide technical guidance and support to project and construction teams.
- Monitor technical risks and develop appropriate mitigation measures.
- Ensure that all engineering documentation and technical records are properly maintained.
- Support project planning, cost control, procurement, and construction activities from a technical perspective.
- Review subcontractor and supplier technical documents and ensure compliance with project requirements.
- Contribute to project progress reports and provide updates on technical activities and outstanding issues.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, HSE requirements, quality standards, and project procedures.
- Lead technical problem-solving and support continuous improvement throughout the project.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Relevant professional certifications or engineering registration are preferred.
- PMP, professional engineering certification, or relevant technical certifications would be an advantage.
Experience
- 10+ years of relevant experience in the construction industry, preferably with experience in large-scale construction or EPC projects.
- Minimum 5 years in a technical/engineering management role.
- Proven experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Experience working with consultants, clients, subcontractors, and project stakeholders.
- Strong experience in technical coordination, design review, construction documentation, and resolving engineering issues.
- Experience with major construction projects is highly preferred.
