Planning Engineer
Kaefer Saudi Arabia Co
3–8 years of experience
Job description
Prepare and update baseline schedules and detailed work plans for insulation, fireproofing, and scaffolding using Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or equivalent.
Develop work breakdown structures, activity logic and sequencing, durations, calendars, milestones, and resource loading based on scope, quantities, productivity assumptions, site conditions, and execution strategy.
Prepare short-term, weekly, and monthly look-aheads by discipline and work front, covering scaffold erection, modification, inspection, handover and dismantling, plus insulation and fireproofing installation and close-out.
Plan work-front readiness, including access, area release, surface and substrate readiness, preceding-work completion, permits, approved drawings or procedures, and material and equipment availability.
Coordinate with project management, construction, site supervision, engineering, quality, safety, procurement, logistics, and client teams on priorities, constraints, interfaces, approvals, and resources.
Plan manpower, equipment, and materials for all disciplines, including mobilization, delivery dates, storage and handling, transfers, and demobilization.
Coordinate sequencing and interfaces with piping, mechanical, structural, coating, and other disciplines to protect completed work, avoid rework, and enable access and handover.
Track planned versus actual progress, productivity, quantities, resource utilization, and schedule performance using project-approved progress rules and measurement units. Maintain discipline-level records.
Maintain records of completed quantities, work-front status, scaffold requests, erection and dismantling dates, inspections, handovers, changes, and constraints for progress and commercial reporting.
Include inspections, client hold points, approvals, applicable testing, handover, and close-out milestones for insulation and fireproofing, and scaffold inspection and release requirements.
Identify critical activities, access and work-front constraints, delays, productivity issues, material shortages, and resource conflicts; communicate risks and recommend corrective actions and recovery plans.
Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly progress reports, dashboards, progress curves, manpower histograms, quantity reports, and schedule narratives with traceable data.
Assess schedule impacts of scope changes, revised priorities, and site instructions; maintain records supporting variations, extensions of time, and delay assessments.
Support tenders with scope review, quantity and duration estimates, sequencing, productivity assumptions, and resource forecasts.
Coordinate planning for shutdowns, turnarounds, maintenance campaigns, and construction projects, including work windows, access readiness, shift coverage, and handback milestones.
Ensure plans reflect approved scaffold designs, safety requirements, client and site procedures, quality requirements, and project constraints; escalate unsafe or unready work fronts.
Bachelor’s degree in civil, Mechanical, Construction Engineering, or a related discipline.
Typically 3–5 years of planning or project-controls experience in industrial services or construction, preferably in oil and gas, petrochemical, power, infrastructure, or similar projects.
Planning experience covering insulation and fireproofing as well as scaffolding is preferred; for a combined-scope role, experience in at least two disciplines should be demonstrated.
Understanding of insulation and fireproofing systems, installation sequences, materials, work-front readiness, quality/inspection stages, productivity, and quantity measurement.
Understanding of scaffolding systems, erection, modification, inspection, handover and dismantling sequences, access requirements, and site logistics.
Proficiency in Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project and Microsoft Excel, including schedule development, updates, reporting, and resource loading.
Experience with progress measurement, quantity tracking, critical-path analysis, schedule risk identification, recovery planning, and change management.
Familiarity with project documentation and applicable client specifications, quality requirements, and safety procedures. Relevant planning, project-management, insulation/fireproofing, or scaffolding training is an advantage.
